RECYCLE ME Application Design

Webpage Design, Spring 2015

Adobe Illustrator

For this project I was required to create and design an app that could be used by  New Yorkers. The criteria for the app was that it had to use information and data from a database found on the NYC Open Data Website. I found a few databases that had information with  locations of public recycling bins and special waste disposal locations in New York city. Using these databases, I created and designed, RECYCLE ME, an app that could be used to help New Yorkers become better recyclers.

The inspiration for this app was from my own problems with recycling. I think it is unbelievable that some town do not provide it’s citizens Styrofoam recycling services! I think it’s horrible.. Styrofoam is not good for the environment, and to think that many people just throw it away in the regular garbage is such a waste, and a crime! With this app, users can locate and find directions to the nearest and most convenient waste disposal sites for their plastics, glass, electronics, and even clothes! The app will have a feature that allows users to take a photo of the object they want to recycle, and automatically find the nearest location to recycle it.
